Handel's Israel in Egypt

Handel's Israel in Egypt

Summertown Choral Society's winter concert - Handel's magnificent Oratorio "Israel in Egypt” stands alongside "Messiah" as one of England's favourite choral treasures.

With its choruses and solos of frogs, pestilence, hailstones, darkness, insects, fire and violent smiting, the oratorio contains some of Handel’s greatest writing, demonstrating Mozart’s words "Handel understands effect better than any of us; when he chooses he strikes like a thunderbolt".

Summertown Choral Society will be joined by the baroque orchestra Instruments of Time and Truth and a distinguished line up of soloists including the international tenor Daniel Norman.

Duration: 2 Hours 15 Minutes with interval
