Moonrakers

Vaughan Williams: Roots & Branches

Moonrakers (folk band) plus Oxus (string quartet)

Tickets £20

Collected folk songs and compositions from the Vaughan Williams repertoire featuring 4-piece folk band Moonrakers and string quartet OXUS. An evocative mix of songs and tunes from the folk and classical traditions.

The Vaughan Williams Festival in 2022 commissioned Moonrakers to develop an exciting ‘cross-over’ show that features eight musicians on stage with folk songs interwoven with some of Vaughan Williams’s well-known works. OXUS performs the fourth movement of Quartet No.1 in G minor and the Phantasy Quintet. Moonrakers perform new arrangements of songs such as “The Trees They Do Grow High”, “The Turtle Dove”, “Two Sisters” and other traditional songs drawn from the Vaughan Williams collection (Cecil Sharp House). The show includes some new music written by Moonrakers members, Jon Bennett and Jacqui Johnson. Brief introductions on the source of the materials will form part of the show and will take the audience on a journey from traditional to contemporary interpretations of ‘living tradition’ material.

The show is co-sponsored by The Vaughan Williams Foundation.
